MTSI designed, manufactured and tested these Allison 501KB gas fired turbine generator sets for use by AMOCO's Gulf of Suez Petroleum affiliate on a water flood platform in the Red Sea. This work was performed under a subcontract from a Detroit Diesel Allison distributor and included the manufacture and gas fired testing of the units and the supply of unit control panels also designed and manufactured by MTSI.
These gas turbine generator sets were the first Allison powered 501KB generator sets to use the Hilliard gas motor starter. Externally accessible fuel and lube service compartments have been a feature of MTSI designed Gas Turbine Generator packages that have been well received by users of the equipment. The AMOCO units have been in continuous service since late 1983 without any significant problems reported.
